Scope of Work:
Planning and Execution of the 2 month turnaround for the B.C.L. Copper/Nickel Smelting Plant. The planning and preparation phase included identification, resourcing, pre-fabrication, subcontractor selection and material supply. The work included the Demolition and Rebuild of a 300 T flash smelting furnace, which involved complete replacement of both the reaction and uptake shaft and the total replacement of the hearth and all copper blocks. Removal and replacement of Drying Plant Stacks .The complete overhaul of two 40T Electric Arc Furnaces, which included, the replacement of roofs-shell, renewal of large and small bore piping and the overhaul of heat exchangers. Refurbishment of the Waste Heat Boiler which included a 40% retube involving 7,600 butt welds, replacement of feed conveyors on hoppers, pendant renewals, steam drum repairs and piping repairs. The Planning and Preparation was carried out over a six-month period with the work being executed during a 48 day shutdown.
