Operation Smile

In recent years the Kentz team in Trinidad has regularly contributed to the welfare of the children at the Operation Smile Orphanage in Gasparillo, Trinidad. To continue the effort, throughout 2010, employees visited the orphanage to deliver numerous school supplies and much needed bulk food items.

Operation Smile was established in April 2001 by Reverend and Mrs Madho Basdeo. Over the years, the organisation has worked tirelessly to ensure that Operation Smile is a safe haven for abandoned children of all ages.

There are currently 39 children residing at Operation Smile. The children are divided into four age groups, each with its own house and caretaker.

Caretakers are like surrogate parents to the children, providing not only meals, clean shelter and medical attention but also contributing to the children’s social, academic and spiritual development.

The children are showered with love, nurtured in a family environment, and given a sense of stability. There is also a small farm at Operation Smile, where a number of sheep and goats are reared. The children are encouraged to assist in caring for the animals so that they can develop a sense of responsibility and teamwork.

With such wholehearted dedication and ongoing support, Operation Smile will continue to thrive in years to come. Indeed, the organisation is currently seeking to expand, with a new house under construction to accommodate more children.
